PAY RANGE: $65,000 to $75,000 annually

COMPANY SUMMARY: Compassionate Carbon (CC) is a dedicated effort launched by Eden Reforestation Projects (Eden), a mission-driven organization with seventeen years of dynamic global growth and effectiveness. CC’s express purpose is to provide restoration and pro-poor development through nature-based solutions to climate change. CC will achieve this by operating as a full-service carbon project development company for landscape scale carbon opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY: We are looking for an independent, self-initiating professional with demonstrated experience in scientific technical writing and desktop publishing. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience developing robust reports, proposals, and studies for both technical and lay audiences.  As a premier carbon project developer, we need the documents and reports we deliver to our clients and partners to reflect the highest degree of quality and professionalism in both writing and visual presentation. This role will be key in helping preserve and promote our brand image.


  • Produce high-quality technical documentation that is appropriate for its intended audience and contributes to the overall success of the Carbon department
  • Confer with client representatives, technical team members, and leadership to obtain an in-depth understanding of the subject material to be developed for publication, processes involved, and establish documentation and template requirements
  • Design and maintain templates for proposals, reports, and studies for use throughout the organization
  • Interview technical personnel, subject matter experts, and read journals and other material to become familiar with carbon project product offerings and processes and to ensure technical accuracy and determine the appropriate strategy and content for new documents
  • Validate technical accuracy, edit, standardize, and incorporate content prepared by other team members
  • Participate in technical team meetings to observe and record details for inclusion in reports
  • Select and caption photographs, tables, drawings, sketches, diagrams, maps, and charts to illustrate key information
  • Lay out material for publication and distribution both in print and electronically
  • Route documents for review by team members and incorporate changes
  • Publish final copies for clients and partners by assigned deadlines.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions
  • Review trade publications including articles, journals, and blogs to develop and maintain knowledge of carbon project industry terms
  • Collaborating with the marketing team to develop and ensure compliance with style and branding standards
  • Effectively reviews and interprets technical material into documented communications strategies that resonate with specific audiences, including scientists, C-suite executives of partners, and donors, etc.
  • Maintain and update relevant tasks and statuses inside of the project management system
  • May plan, develop, organize, write, and edit operational procedures and training manuals
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates

  • Superior time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize and delegate tasks and responsibilities especially in a dispersed, asynchronous working environment
  • Self-driven and able to manage work based on multiple inputs and desired outputs
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 / SharePoint with experience leveraging digital project management software (e.g., ClickUp, Basecamp, Jira, etc.)
  • Experience and skill using desktop publishing software (e.g., Adobe FrameMaker; Adobe InDesign; Microsoft Publisher; PTC Arbortext)
  • Proficient with graphics or photo imaging software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud; Adobe Fireworks; Adobe Illustrator; Adobe Photoshop)
  • Experience in GIS software is a plus but not required
  • Possesses clarity on global environmental work and the value of carbon projects

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred
  • 3-5 years progressive experience in technical documentation and document design
  • Experience coordinating review cycles with technical teams
  • Command of other languages such as French, Spanish, or German in a technical contexed is advantageous but not required


  • Requires computer usage and sitting for extended periods of time
  • Extended or irregular work hours will be required as needed
  • Position requires occasional air travel and participation in extended meetings, conferences, and training in the U.S., or at international events.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential
